    Day 6: Oaxaca
After breakfast, tour of this Spanish-built city, complete with its narrow streets, it has a special atmosphere with its large indigenous population, flourishing markets and some superb colonial architecture. Day 7: Oaxaca – Tuxtle - San Cristóbal de las Casas
After breakfast, flight to Tuxtla and transfer to your hotel. A tour of this handsome colonial town in the pine-clad Valle de Jovel, surrounded by the classic Mayan villages of the Chiapas highlands. Free afternoon.

Day 8: San Cristóbal de las Casas – Palenque
After breakfast, journey by road to the ancient ruins Palenque, situated near a town of the same name. This is Mexico's most breath-taking archaeological park. During the Mayan period, it was believed to be one of the most important cities of its day. Surrounded by lush tropical forest and jungle, this site has a serene, mystical atmosphere. Palenque contained tombs of ancient leaders and rulers, and still today, excavations are ongoing to uncover more of the mysteries and enigmas surrounding the ancient civilizations of the Maya.

    Day 9: Palenque – Merida - Uxmal
Opportunity to return to the site for more personal appreciation before the main tourist groups arrive. After, transfer to the airport for the flight to Merida and transfer to your hotel. Conveniently located, it is only minutes from Mérida; one of Mexico's most nostalgic colonial cities, similar to the city of Oaxaca. Merida combines colonial-era architecture with a rich Indian heritage. After lunch, a visit to nearby Kabah and the pyramids of Uxmal, site of perhaps the finest of all Mayan cities, where you will also enjoy a sound & light show (8:30 pm).

Day 10: Merida – Chichen Itza
After breakfast, tour of Merida before heading toward Yaxcaba and your lodge for the night, Mayaland Hotel. Lunch before a guided tour of this ancient Mayan city, dating back to 514 AD.

Day 11: Merida – Chichen Itza
A final day to visit this incredible site before the main throng of tourists arrive. Exclusive to your lodge, you enter Chichen Itza this morning through a private entrance, with the El Castillo pyramid in its majesty just around the bend. After your guided tour of the site’s temples, platforms and ball courts, there is time for more personal reflection or as an alterntive, a visit to lesser-known Ek-Balam, once a pivotal site in the public affairs of eastern Yucatan and a former burial site of Mayan royalty.

Day 12: Chichen Itza — Cancun - Juarez
After breakfast, transfer to Cancun for your flight to Juarez, close the US border. Transfer to your hotel.

    Day 13: Juarez

    Day 15: Creel

In 1741, Jesuits built the Cusarare Mission nearby and acquired 12 Miguel Correa oil painitngd, depicting the life of the Virgin Mary. These restored paintings and others are housed today in the Loyola Museum. We visit the adobe mission, and tour the museum enjoying the gallery. In the evening we get our first glimpse of the Copper Canyon by dining at the Hotel Posada Barrancas Mirador, positioned on the canyons edge, before boarding the train for our overnight journey.

    Day 16: Copper Canyon
Today the train travels the world’s most scenic rail route, the famous Copper Canyon, which the locals call Barranca del Cobre. A vast network of canyons and six rivers, this region is accessible only by rail. and is four times the size of the Grand Canyon. We spend the entire day on board the train, winding through 83 tunnels, crossing 35 trestles and climbing 8,000 feet into the heart of the Sierra Madres, an unforgettable experience.

    Day 17: Alamos
We will arrive today at the final stop of this epic journey to Alamos, a tranquil little town in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Occidental. Declared a national historical monument, this town back in the 18th century, was a silver boom town of fabulous mansions and haciendas, but by the 1920s it had declined into a forgotten backwater. Alamos' Spanish colonial buildings have been beautifully restored and much of the architecture has a Moorish influence, thanks to the Andalusian artisans who originally built the city in 1540. We alight and spend an evening at the luxurious 17th Century Hacienda de los Santos.

    Day 18: Alamos
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight home.
