Hacienda San José was built in an area where the most valuable Mayan treasures are kept from time immemorial. It has thus awakened the imagination of both dreamers and adventurers While the hacienda was refurbished, the aim was always to preserve the characteristics of the site. Hence, Mayan building techniques such as mixing the resin of the chukum tree (a tree growing in the region) were recovered. Materials similar to those originally covering floors, walls and pavements were also used. A chapel, with beautiful, genuine 19th Century frescoes can be seen inside the Hacienda.
